Big Game Hunting - Island Park

Island Park has big game hunting for pronghorn antelope, black bear, elk, moose, mule deer, and whitetail deer. The Targhee National Forest and adjacent BLM lands provide hundreds of square miles of public hunting opportunity. The seasons are decided each year by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission.

Moose:

The moose season is determined by April 1 of each year. Moose hunting is a controlled hunt that you have to apply and be drawn in order to hunt. The application period is usually from April 1st through April 30. Contact the Idaho Department of Fish and Game in early April for season dates and to apply for controlled hunts.

Black Bear:

The black bear seasons have been:

• Fall: August 30 through October 31.
• Spring: April 15 through June 30.
• Black bear tags are sold over the counter.

Pronghorn Antelope:

The antelope seasons have been:

• Archery: August 15 through September 15
• Controlled hunts: September 25 through October 24.
• Controlled hunt application period is usually May 1st through May 31.

Elk:

The elk seasons have been:

• Archery: August 30 through September 30.
• General any legal weapon: spike bull only: October 15 through October 28.
• Muzzleloader: spike bull or antlerless: November 11 through December 9.
• Controlled hunts: Some start as early as October 1and most start in November.

• Controlled hunt application period is usually May 1st through May 31.

Deer:

The deer seasons have been:

• Archery: August 30 through September 30.
• General any legal weapon: October 10 through October 31.
• Controlled hunts: Please see current regulations.
• Application period is usually May 1st through May 31.

Idaho Department of Fish and Game:

Non-resident deer and elk tags are limited. Please apply early to ensure you can get one.
